Navigating Japan's immaculate rail network and Shinkansen bullet trains with bulky luggage can be daunting. Fortunately, Japan features the world's most reliable luggage courier system: Yamato Transport (famously known by its Black Cat logo, or Takkyubin).
1. Why Ship Your Clubs?
Virtually all Japanese golfers use Takkyubin rather than hauling golf bags in their personal vehicles or on trains. For approximately ¥2,500 to ¥3,500 ($18–$25 USD) per bag, your clubs are picked up and delivered straight into the golf course locker room waiting for your tee time.
2. How the Process Works
- At the Airport: Drop your bag at the Yamato counter in Narita or Haneda Arrivals. Show your golf booking confirmation from Book Golf Japan.
- At Your Hotel: The front desk concierge at any major Tokyo, Kyoto, or Osaka hotel will gladly prepare the shipping slip (Denpyo) for you.
- Timing: Ship 2 days in advance (or 1 day for Tokyo-to-Chiba/Kanagawa) to guarantee your clubs arrive safely before your play date.
3. Return Shipping After Your Round
When you finish playing, the clubhouse front desk will have a dedicated courier desk. Simply fill out a return slip, pay in yen or by credit card, and your clubs will be waiting at your next hotel or back at the airport terminal for your flight home.
